If getting a work placement is an integral part of your course you should find that you get assistance and support from your academic course leaders, but if not then contact the National Council for Work Experience who can put you in touch with all sorts of placement opportunities. It is also worth checking out STEP, an organisation who specialise in 8 week placements.
Volunteer work
If you are looking to gain some experience through voluntary work you will probably find that your university/college Students' Union or Careers Service will have links to volunteer opportunities in your area. Alternatively check out the do-it web site for a comprehensive list of nationwide opportunities.
